Copenhagen Denmark with my toddler and preschooler
My family was lucky enough to have a great friend to visit and crash with in Østerbro. We spent ten days touring around Copenhagen and can condense our highlights into a tidy little week of fun with toddlers and preschoolers.
Copenhagen is baby-friendly to a degree I couldn’t even comprehend before visiting: the attractions either accommodate strollers or supply easy parking; changing tables abound; a lot of restaurants supply child-friendly menus and highchairs. Naozaj. When I left Copenhagen, it made me feel like by comparison America hates babies.
Copenhagen is a mix of super-expensive and absolutely complimentary activities so it takes a little planning to balance the fun with the budget.
Experimentarium
Holden’s favorite thing about the Experimentarium was “all the things” and we had to agree with him. If you have a geeky streak and imagine the coolest hands-on science museum you could ever go to, it might look like the Experimentarium. Can you fit inside a bubble? measure the strength of your scream? feel the force of an earthquake? Áno áno áno.
If you have a toddler, I recommend the membership. It will pay for itself after a couple visits. The cafe was only ok. You can bring your own food (recommended) and eat it downstairs.
Remisen indoor play area
Visit this absolutely complimentary indoor play space to let your toddler run off his energy near Trianglen (at Blegdamsvej 132). An massive climbing structure — that likely would not pass stringent safety laws in the U.S. — dominates the room. Older kids can climb up the sky and descend through the swirly slide. younger toddlers can climb underneath and find plenty to explore. other cool features: a pirate ship, zipline, fireman’s pole, ride-on toys, balls and separate rooms for crafts, dolls, and Legos.
Again, you will find ample stroller parking, changing tables, and cubbies for your belongings. Did I mention it is FREE? You’ll probably want to come back again and again.
There is no food or beverage in the Remisen complex but if you walk over toward the lakes, you can find a incredibly delicious hamburger at the Den Franske Café. toddlers will also take pleasure in enjoying the ducks year-round.
Akvarium
We took the bus toward the coast to visit the Denmark’s Akvarium. The Aquarium (Akvarium, get it? just say it out loud) is a short walk from the main road (away from the water). cool features include sea turtles, sharks, and all the characters from finding Nemo in one tank (for reals!)! The petting pool is open after 10:30.
No need to pack your own food. The cafe is respectable and we took pleasure in hot dogs (polse m/ brod or “sausage with bread”) and cocoa. and yes, there is a cloak room with stroller parking and plenty of changing tables in the men’s and women’s restrooms.
Admission prices are affordable (kids under three are complimentary and lots of reciprocal arrangements exist with other museums). At the end of the day, my sons loved the bus ride and seeing piles of snow then fields of snow (“c’mon boys, we’re in Europe! we have snow in California” oh well, the heart wants what it wants).
Thursday: Louisiana Museum
Take a 30 minute train ride out of town and visit the fantastic Louisiana museum of modern Art. You will also need to take about a 20 minute walk (so bring a stroller for worn out legs).
You might think that a toddler shouldn’t mix with a modern art museum. speak to me after you visit Louisiana.
The art museum is set up in a labyrinthine loop making the children’s wing difficult to find when you arrive. but oh my! once you find it, you will be blown away. and don’t stop at the first level, there are three levels of diy art projects with each floor focusing on a medium and artist. We got entangled on the Calder mobile level for a half hour using scissors, glue sticks, and bendy wire to create our very own mobiles and attach them to the display wall. In fact, our family of four was so immersed in this project that we forgot our plan of “divide and conquer” to see the rest of the museum in solo shifts.
Little Calder
Luckily, in a moment of selflessness, Holden declared that “we must do what you want considering that we spent so much time doing what I want.” After a delicious and pricey meal in the cafe, we strolled around the remaining exhibits. I pointed out that the layout is a little confusing (see exceptional use of the word “labyrinthine”); eventually we had to ask a safety monitor how to find the exit.
On the plus side, this is a fantastic museum and we all took pleasure in our visit.
On the down side, the Louisiana museum is expensive. We used our Copenhagen Card to get admission and train fare and this is a good way to go. considering that it is quite a hike to reach, I recommend it for little babies who will nap on the go or preschoolers who can skip a nap.
National Museet

TNárodné múzeum v Dánsku alebo Natmuseet je klenotom miesta, kde si môžete vziať batoľatá a predškolákov. Ak môžete prinútiť svojich detí, aby sa pozreli na hromady kostí a brnenia, potom by ste mali mať šancu vidieť národné artefakty skôr, ako objavíte skvelú hraciu plochu.
Na druhej strane je detská zóna plná zaujímavých historických predmetov, na ktoré môžete vyliezť a nosiť v mene hry. Vyliezli sme na palubu pirátskej lode, malej vikingskej lode, obrovského koňa, stredovekej steny a na pakistanský trh. Snažili sme sa na brnenie a otočené drevené meče.
Kaviareň je drahá a menu nevyzeralo pre deti. Nechali sme hladných a drsných. No dobre. Rád by som vedel v komentároch, ak sú v okolí dobré možnosti stravovania.
Statens múzeum pre Kunst
V deň, keď sme išli do Národnej galérie Dánska alebo múzea Statens pre Kunst, sme to urobili zle, takže mi dovoľte pomôcť vám to urobiť dobre. Ak chcete využiť praktický detský workshop (za malý poplatok), musíte ísť cez víkend. Počas týždňa ho používajú školské skupiny [išli sme na týždeň].
K workshopom je skákací matrac, ktorý umožňuje najmenším šancom dostať ich skoky [moje deti by neodišli]. Pokúste sa objaviť toto zábavné prekvapenie v ideálnom čase pri vašej návšteve, aby ste mohli mať chvíľku, aby ste videli umenie.
Mali sme šťastie, že sme si vyskúšali chladnú časovú os ART a potom sme sa našli hon na vychytávanie, aby sme našli rôzne kúsky. Holden bol obzvlášť potešený, keď našiel inštaláciu nižšie.
Kakao tiež vyzeralo bezbožne dobre, ale ani jedno z mojich detí by sa nezdieľalo. Takže si kúpte svoje vlastné.
Plávanie v DGI-Byen
Dyi-Byen je jednoducho najúžasnejším komplexom plávania, aký som kedy mal tú česť navštíviť. Na každom kroku obsahuje množstvo úrovní plávania a striekania s vybavením pre rodiny s deťmi (parkovisko kočíka, nosiče a vane, prebaľovací stôl pri bazéne).
Hlavná detská oblasť má fontány sprej a vodnú hladinu pre starších predškolských zariadení, ako aj pre dojčatá hlbokú úroveň. Deti sa tiež tešia z toho, že si užívajú rodičov a veľké deti skočia z dosky potápania s oknom na úrovni pozemnej úrovne.
Vstupné ceny nie sú lacné, ale určite to stojí za to. Niekoľko tipov: Prineste si vlastný uterák a príďte skoro! Videli sme, že sa dostane veľa rodín, ktoré vstúpili, keď sme odchádzali okolo obeda.

Dánske správanie. Ľudia v Dánsku sa nebudú vo fronte, snažia sa dostať dopredu. Tiež, ak potrebujete pomoc, radšej o to požiadate; Miestni obyvatelia vám poskytnú užitočné a priame odporúčania (a veľmi rýchlo poukazujú na to, keď „robíte to zle“), ale umožní vám stáť celý deň jednoducho vyzerať bezradne. Takže, hovor.
Cyklistika.Copenhagen má krásnu kultúru cyklistiky. Ak ešte nemáte cyklus, požičajte si alebo prenajímajte bicykel, aby ste cítili slobodu a radosť. Ďalší priateľ mi požičal jej nákladný bicykel a mali sme fantastickú dobrodružnú jazdu od Charlottenlund po ãsterbro v tme.
Jedlo. Všetky naše jedlo bolo vynikajúce a veľa z toho bolo veľmi drahé. Dánske rodiny nejedia v reštauráciách rovnako ako Američania. Napriek tomu všetky reštaurácie, ktoré sme skontrolovali, a kaviarne boli vhodné pre rodiny s deťmi.
Chladný. Plánovali sme našu návštevu, aby sme sa zhodovali s dostupnosťou našich priateľov. Brrr. Ak sa vrátime – a dúfam, že to urobíme – chcem navštíviť v lete. Keď je počasie nad mrazom, je ešte oveľa viac. Potom si myslím, že moje deti budú chýbať sneh.
